On August 5, 1962, while I was living in a tepee and learning to shoot a bow and arrow at Girl Scout summer camp, all of America was shocked to hear that the Queen of Hollywood had been found sprawled across her queen-sized bed, telephone receiver in hand, dead of a drug overdose. More than 50 years later, her popularity is undiminished and Marilyn Monroe still shines.
Missing Marilyn is a one-of-a-kind altered book. The original book, Monroe (F.X. Feeney 2008) was part of the Movie Icons book series published by Taschen, and featured movie stills, publicity shots, filmography, and essays about Monroe. The photo pages have been altered and re-assembled with NASA astronomy photos into a series of collage portraits of Miss Monroe. The text has been excised and replaced with nine iconic quotes attributed to her. The cover of the book is covered in pink faux fur and it closes with a fake “diamond bracelet” closure.
