Shortly after Kenyan independence, the nation officially adopted their flag in 1963. A tricolour flag divided with black, red and green, the centre sports a Maasai shield and two spears. These are said to protect the ideals of all four colours - the people, the memory of the struggle for independence, the country's landscape, peace and honesty.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
