The Angolan flag's background is divided in half. The red colour representing the bloodshed during Angola's struggle for independence. The black half represents Africa. The machete, gear and star is a deliberately similar to the USSR's hammer and sickle. The machete representing the peasantry and the gear representing the industrial class.
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
